The Salmon League has been growing by leaps and bounds for years. This has been especially true in the past two seasons as the league has expanded from ten teams in 2009, to twelve teams in 2010 and now, in 2011, the league will add two expansion teams bringing the total to an all-time high of fourteen teams.
As such, the votes cast during the winter amendments decreed that the league will split into two divisions for the 2011 season and beyond.
The two divisions figure to be fiercely competitive from top to bottom, well, maybe more like top to almost bottom.
The alignment decisions involved a number of factors including: recent history, power rankings as determined by the Commissioner’s Office, the franchise power rankings as voted on by the twelve standing team owners and a bit of input from fellow owners throughout the offseason in an attempt to determine the most balanced splits.
As such, it with great pride that I announce the two divisions—named for the two primary species of Salmon—the Atlantic and Pacific Divisions.
Let the inevitable debate begin…

I think they seem pretty even on paper.
We’ve got some expectations for the rookies, but we saw a rookie win the league last year too, so it’s always a fool’s errand to try and make assumptions.
We’ve got some guys who are traditionally competitive in each division and we’ve got a fair number of middle of the pack guys as well spread across both divisions.
It was hard to not create a third division–undoubtedly named after the third (and much smaller) species of salmon, Danube–that consisted of just me and John, but I figured that might cause a bit of a stir.

Nice, I feel Its obvious that the teams at the bottom of the lists will be winning the divisions this year. Thats how you put it right, winners on bottom…..

Uh…yeah, yeah that’s exactly how I set it up.
I suppose, I probably could have put them in alphabetical order to spare people’s feelings…but I think everyone knows where they stand coming into this season.
Time to change that perception with a big year!

We’ve got 6 Salmon League trophies on the Pacific side compared to 4 on the Atlantic…we’ve got 6 head-to-head league championship game contenders on the Pacific side compared to 4 on the Atlantic…we’ve got tough competition after tough competition…
The Pacific is WAY better than the Atlantic! Where’s our TV deal!?!?

Plus…with all due respect to John, I think his trophy is less impressive as it’s from a bygone era of horrible point distribution. No offense to the kid, I think he’d be a monster–given all the computer time he has now–if he ever cared enough to get re-focused on the league.
I also like that this is the one time anyone is going to give Craiggers’ credit for anything is when pimping their division…weaksauce!
